Betty, a lifelong South Carolinian and a retired school teacher, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in Nov. 2007. From that day forward her daughter, popular television host Nancy O'Dell, joined MDA's ALS Division to bring help and hope to all those affected by the disease.

Betty passed away in June 2008, but her spirit and fight lives on through Betty’s Battle.
